The Horror, The Horror |
For those of you who are recent devotees of
The Carmine Hose, the years
before 2004 must seem as distant as the Jurassic Period. Ah, but there was a time when the thought of our team winning a World Series Championship seemed as likely as
Bernie Sanders taking a job on Wall Street (pronounced:
"Wooooaaahhhhhl Shhhtreet" in Bernie-ese). In fact, on this date in 2004, 8,000 Sox fans participated in an on-line poll sponsored by
The Boston Globe (which had yet to become the house organ of the Red Sox). Fans were asked to pick a title for a documentary on the benighted 2003 season (
Grady Little and
Tim Wakefield, please stop reading now). The title selected by fans was
"Still We Believe: The Boston Red Sox Movie". However, some of the
other choices were much more revealing of the mood of the fan base. How about this one:
"The Ecstasy and the Agony" Or this:
"Always the Bridesmaid" But the
best of all may have been this:
"I Know What You Did Last Summer, I Wish I Didn't Know What You Did Last Fall." Indeed.
