Hold on, Red Sox bullpen, there may be reinforcements soon! Multiple sources are reporting that
the rehab process for injured reliever Carson Smith is ahead of schedule. In fact, Smith has moved beyond
simulated games to
actual games. Says manager
John Farrell,
"He's advancing pretty good here. The change to a game versus a sim game was because of how well he's responded to the work so far." The plan is for
another real game, a re-assessment and then a minor league rehab assignment. The best estimate for a return to the major league bullpen is Friday, April 29th against
The Evil Ones. Smith will eventually slot in somewhere among
Junichi Tazawa,
Koji Uehara and
Craig Kimbrel—spelling
all of them.
