Clay Buchholz had one of his bad ones today (you know, as opposed to his good ones). The mercurial righty went just 5 2/3 innings, yielding five earned runs (four on a tie-braking salami).
Elite pitchers hold leads, Buchholz tends to cough them up, as he did today in
Boston's 8-3 loss. On the offensive side, both
Dustin Pedroia and
David Ortiz had two hits each, as the Red Sox narrowed the lead to 5-2. But
Roenis Elías gave up three more Houston runs in the eighth to put the game out of reach. So, your
Carmine Hose are once again a .500 ballclub—as they may very well be all season long. Get used to it.
