We all knew
Mookie Betts was special
on the field—now we are coming to understand he is the same
off the field as well. Last night, the 23-year old
Betts took his entire team out to dinner in Fort Myers. For a young player like Betts—no matter how talented—to do something like that is astonishing. Said Sox president of baseball operations
Dave Dombrowski,
"I can't tell you if I've ever had anybody like that in my career. I've had veterans do it. But I don't know that I've ever had a 23-year-old feel comfortable to do that. He doesn't do it in a fashion where he's trying to be boastful or push himself. It's just a natural thing for him and it's great to see. I think we're very fortunate to have him in our organization at the age he is." Every indication is that Betts is primed to follow-up his stellar 2015 (.291, 18 HRs, 77 RBIs, 21 SBs) with an even more impressive 2016. He also had a .349 OBP and an .820 OPS last year. Not many fans realize that he also finished in the Top 20 in MVP voting (19th). We can't wait to watch this young phenom mature into a great MLB player. Let the stardom begin!
