Former Boston Braves Now Abandon Yet Another City
First, they left Boston's Braves Field (located at B.U.'s Nickerson Field) in 1952, then they picked up stakes and fled Milwaukee in 1965 (which, frankly, one can understand). Now, after 50 years in Atlanta, and almost 20 years at Turner Field, the former Beaneaters will figuratively 'burn it down'—William Tecumseh Sherman-like—and flee next year to Cobb County, Georgia. Brand, spanking new Sun Trust Park is 15 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta—on the I-285 ring highway around the city. Why the team owners are bucking the trend of situating new ballparks in cozy urban settings is beyond us. Shame on those Cobb County Braves!
