Former Red Sox starting pitcher
Dana Kiecker turns 55 years old today.
The Sleepy Eye, Minnesota native pitched in only 50 games for the Red Sox across the 1990 and 1991 seasons. In an incredibly frustrating loss (we had
lots of those pre-2004), the then-29-year old Kiecker went 5 2/3 innings—
giving up just one-earned run in Game 2 of the 1990 ALCS at Fenway. Things (predictably) fell apart after Kiecker's performance—and the Red Sox ended up losing the game (and the series) to the mighty A's of that era. But, Kiecker carved himself a nice little niche in Red Sox history. Happy birthday, Dana!
