Right-handed starter
Joe Kelly signed a one-year, $2.6 million contract with the Red Sox to avoid salary arbitration. That's a more than $600,000 raise from his 2015 salary. Kelly went 10-6 with a 4.82 ERA last season and will likely be the fifth starter in 2016—behind
David Price,
Clay Buchholz,
Rick Porcello and
Eduardo Rodriguez. Of course, his best role might ultimately be in the bullpen—where his powerful stuff might actually be
more effective in short stints.
