Christian Vazquez |
As Christopher Smith of
MassLive.com points out, young Red Sox catcher
Christian Vazquez could be a
huge contributor to the 2016 Red Sox. Rehabbing from Timmy John surgery,
Vazquez (playing only DH) has hit .272 in Winter Ball in Puerto Rico. But, his
offense would just be the cherry on top of the sundae. It's his stellar
defense that can make him a star. He will begin throwing to bases in Spring Training—
trying to hone the arm that threw out 52% of runners in 2014. If he can come
close to that statistic in 2016—and continue to handle pitchers like a veteran—it could go a long way toward making Boston's pitching staff demonstrably better.
