Red Sox Give David Price Biggest Pitcher Contract Ever
Well, Dave Dombrowski got his guy. The Red Sox signed left-handed pitcher David Price to a seven-year, $217 million contract. It is the largest pitcher contract in MLB history. Over his eight-year MLB career, Price is 104-56 with a 3.09 ERA. Last season—split between Detroit and Toronto—the lefty was 18-5 with a 2.45 ERA. Price has one Cy Young Award (2012) and finished second in the voting twice (2010, 2015). The deal also has an opt-out clause for the player after three years. In addition, none of the money is deferred. He automatically becomes the ace of the Red Sox rotation.
