According to Bob Nightengale of
USAToday.com,
the Red Sox outbid the St. Louis Cardinals for the services of David Price by at least $30 million. When Price woke up yesterday morning, he assumed he'd sign with the Redbirds—but, after getting the Boston offer—it was carmine
socks in his future instead. Reportedly, the Red Sox were
also heavily involved in negotiations with
Zack Greinke, which necessitated a resolution of the Price talks by the end of Tuesday
. After getting $30 million a year for the first three years of the contract, Price (if he doesn't opt out at that point) would received $31 million in 2019 and then $32 million in the years 2020, 2021 and 2022. Not bad, you make $1 million per start (assuming 30 starts a year) and get four days off. Sign me up.
