The Red Sox were one of only four MLB teams to go over the payroll limit—
and thus got hit with a punitive luxury tax. Luckily they were nowhere
near the leader of the pack—the Los Angeles Dodgers—who paid out $43.7 million. Next in line were
The Bronx Embalmers who shelled out $26 million.
The Carmine Hose were third on the list with a relatively paltry fee of $1.87 million. Lastly, the San Francisco Giants paid out $1.33 million. The Dodgers penalty was an all-time record as they had a whopping 2015 payroll of nearly $300 million ($298.3).
