Manfred (L); Rose (R) |
New MLB commissioner
Rob Manfred has denied Pete Rose's application to be removed from the 'permanently ineligible list'—in effect, continuing his ban from baseball. In the text of Manfred's decision, he referred to Rose as not presenting credible evidence of a "reconfigured life" either through admission of his wrongdoing or by avoiding continued gambling (albeit legal). As such, his application of reinstatement was denied by the Commissioner. As we have said on many occasions, this is the right course of action. Rose knew
exactly what type of behavior was prohibited by baseball's rules—it's posted in every MLB clubhouse. He chose to violate those rules. He should be banned. Period.
