Talks Are Underway To Bring MLB Games To London
Major League Baseball is engaged in "advanced negotiations" to bring MLB games to London's Olympic Stadium. The target date for the first MLB game in England is the 2017 season. The Olympic Stadium venue (built for the 2012 games) will seat about 55,000 upon renovation and can be reconfigured to accommodate baseball (with some limitations). In the past, regular season MLB games have been played in Japan, Puerto Rico and Australia—but never in Europe. Of course, the deep origins of baseball reside in England—with games like rounders and even cricket. 'Repatriating' the game would be an exciting historical exercise for all involved. And, with the success of NFL games in London, it makes sense to export our better game across the pond.
