'Expert' Consensus: Sox Get Free Agents Cueto & O'Day
According the consensus of MLBTradeRumors 'experts', the Red Sox will dip into the free agent market to fill their two biggest needs: an ace starting pitcher and a dominant bullpen arm. The belief is that Dave Dombrowski will pay Johnny Cueto $115 million over five years to put him at the top of the Boston rotation. In addition, the view is that The Carmine Hose will sign sidearm reliever Darren O'Day to a three-year, $22.5 million contract. The 29-year old Cueto has a record of 96-70 over eight MLB seasons—compiling a 3.30 ERA. The 33-year old O'Day has a 31-13 record out of the 'pen over eight seasons—with an ERA of 2.31. He has averaged 8.7 strikeouts over nine innings in his MLB career. Look for these or very similar acquisitions by Dombrowski in the very near future.
