He is highly sought-after in off-season trade talks. He had an accelerated run to the majors last year, and performed
more than adequately. He is one of
two elite catching prospects—along with
Christian Vazquez—in the Red Sox organization. And, recently,
Blake Swihart had his jersey retired at Cleveland High School—his Rio Rancho, New Mexico High alma mater. The 23-year old backstop hit .274 in 84 games last year. His "caught stealing" rate was a more than acceptable 28%—the league average being 32% in 2015. Hopefully, the Red Sox will move forward with both Swihart and Vazquez as part of their future—possibly moving one or the other to different position down the road.
