In a conference call interview yesterday, soon-to-be-former Red Sox play-by-play man
Don Orsillo stated that he was surprised by his firing. Said Orsillo,
"The end of my career with the Red Sox, I did not see coming. I think it was a very good 15 years and one that I'll never forget. And I certainly will never forget the fans and the tribute they gave me last Sunday. It's something that will stay with me forever." Details of his new role with the Padres were revealed—including
both TV and radio in his first year with the club. Starting in
2017, he will fully take over the reins of the TV broadcast from the legendary
Dick Enberg. We wish Don the best in his new role!
