Worcester And Springfield Vie For Sox AAA Franchise
Now that Larry Lucchino's dream of 'Camden Yards On The Providence River' is officially dead, other options are opening up. Specifically, officials in the Massachusetts cities of Worcester and Springfield have offered their communities as a landing spot for Boston's AAA franchise. While the Red Sox will consider other sites in Rhode Island, they will not stay at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket. So, the courtship now begins to lure Larry and the soon-to-be-former PawSox team to The Bay State. The City Manager of Worcester is said to be open to "creative ideas"—whatever that means. And, the Mayor of Springfield is said to be "very open" to a conversation about bringing baseball back to his city. Of course, neither official has agreed to any public funding of a new stadium. So, this may be a long search for Larry.
