Kirk Minihane of
WEEI's Dennis & Callahan Morning Show is reporting that
NESN asked Don Orsillo to tweet that he was not being fired—and that their parting of the ways was a
mutual idea. According to Minnihane, Orsillo refused to participate in the ruse. While we think that,
substantively, replacing Orsillo with the brilliant
Dave O'Brien is a net
upgrade for fans, we
do agree that the
process of Orsillo's firing was ham-handed. Minihane's new information further reinforces that view. The NOG and NESN continue to completely misperceive the mood of their fan base on sensitive issues like the Orsillo dismissal. For a bunch of guys who like to consider themselves "politically-correct", they sure are tone-deaf on many of these issues. Curious.
