Blake Swihart was always thought of as the
offensive catching prospect, while
Christian Vazquez (out for the year with an injury) was tabbed as the
defensive whiz behind the plate. Last night,
The Blake-In-Nator lived up to the hype—homering twice and knocking in five runs in
Boston's 10-4 win over The Evil Ones. The victory again prevented
The Pinstriped Posers from clinching a post-season berth—which
could slip away from them completely.
Rick Porcello almost frittered away a 6-0 first inning advantage (giving up four runs of his own in the initial frame), but settled down to go a solid eight innings—while striking out eight and walking just one.
Mookie Betts went 2-4—including his 16th HR, while
Jackie Bradley, Jr. and
Dustin Pedroia also collected two hits each. Boston is now firmly ensconced in third place in the AL East—and is now on pace to win 79 games.
