On the night his teammate
Mike Napoli was traded,
David Ortiz clouted his 22nd round-tripper of the year (a two-run shot) to help Boston take
a 7-2 win at Comerica Park in Detroit.
Hanley Ramirez and
Xander Bogaerts chipped in with two-run doubles to pace the Boston offense.
Joe Kelly got the win, despite only going 5 1/3 innings and giving up two runs on seven hits. Kelly started the game by recording the first six outs via the strikeout.
Justin Masterson could not deal with a five-run lead in the ninth, which forced manager
John Farrell to bring in
Koji Uehara. The 40-year old closed out the win—although he took a vicious hit off the wrist of his throwing hand before recording the final out. No word yet on the severity of his injury.
