The arm of Major League Baseball that 'live streams' its own ballgames
will soon be "spun-off" into an independent company that will also stream NHL games.
MLB Advanced Media already streams non-baseball contests for the likes of
ESPN,
HBO and (the moronic)
WWE. Now the
new venture—to be called
BAM Tech— will be
valued at least $3 billion and become an even more lucrative profit center for the 30 MLB owners (including, of course, our own beloved
John Henry). The new company will pay the NHL $100 million a year for six years for the rights to stream their games—and also bestow 10% ownership on the hockey league. Sweet deal all around—pony up, fans!
