The Red Sox have
activated rookie catcher Blake Swihart from the disabled list and designated fellow backstop
Sandy Leon for assignment. Swihart had been sidelined for the last twelve games with a bruised foot. Leon was picked up via trade during Spring Training from the Washington Nationals. Leon hit just .180 in 33 games, but served as the 'personal catcher' for
Clay Buchholz during his pre-injury resurgence. Swihart is hitting .241 in 40 games so far this year and (if not traded by July 31st) will share duties with veteran (and
Andover High School graduate)
Ryan Hanigan.
