Brian Johnson, the highly-touted 24-year old Red Sox pitching prospect, is on the mound tonight for Pawtucket. So far this year, the 6'4" lefty is 8-5 with 2.68 ERA. In 80.2 innings pitched, he's given up just 63 hits—and sports a WHIP of 1.08. He looks about as ready as a young starter can be. Couple this with the fact that the Boston rotation is in dire need of quality in at least two spots (
Rick Porcello,
Justin Masterson), and the obvious solution is Johnson. If the Red Sox are serious about making a move on the division and/or the
Wild Card, they need to take a chance on Johnson
now—or at least after tonight's AAA start.
