The Great Divide |
Not that long ago, a 2015 Yankee-Red Sox series at Fenway would have evoked yawns.
Serious yawns.
The Evil Ones were somehow hanging around the top of the division and
The Carmine Hose were a bunch of dysfunctional, dystopian dopes. Now, just
five games separate
The Bronx Embalmers (in first place) and the Red Sox (alive but still languishing at the bottom). How the heck did this happen? Well,
The Pinstriped Posers have started playing down to their actual talent level, and Boston is riding a wave of youthful exuberance from the likes of
Xander Bogaerts,
Mookie Betts,
Brock Holt and
Eduardo Rodriguez. Truth be told,
both of these teams are no great shakes—staying afloat among the 'flotsam and jetsam' that
is the American League East. Still, at least these next three games will be fun again—and
meaningful.
