Papelbon (sittingstill.net) |
It's the worst kept secret in Major League Baseball:
former Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon wants out of The City Of Brotherly Love. Not that he doesn't like cheese-steaks, mind you, or
Ben Franklin or even
Rocky I, II, III, IV and V for that matter. He just wants out of the stinker of a situation that
is the Phillies. Said Pap,
"I think everybody knows where I'm at. I've always been straightforward that I want to go play for a contender, and I'm not going to shy away from it." When has he ever shied aways from
anything? This year, the 34-year-old Papelbon is sporting a stellar 1.65 ERA and 14 saves—on one of the worst teams in baseball. While a return to Boston is highly unlikely,
Ben Cherington could do a lot worse at the trade deadline.
