Hold on. This
must be a mistake. According to Michael Hurcomb of
CBSSports.com, t
he Red Sox have traded for Baltimore Orioles outfielder Alejandro De Aza. Apparently the
last inexplicable acquisition of an outfielder—
Carlos Peguero—has been designated for assignment to make room for
this inexplicable acquisition. By our count, the Boston outfield contingent (injured and not) is:
Shane Victorino,
Rusney Castillo,
Hanley Ramirez,
Mookie Betts,
Daniel Nava,
Jackie Bradley, Jr. and
Allen Craig. And now De Aza! The 31-year old De Aza (a left-handed hitter) has a career .265 batting average in eight seasons with Baltimore, the White Sox, and the Marlins. Could this be a pre-cursor to a larger trade, with multiple outfield components? Stay tuned!
