Tate Matheny |
In the fourth round of the MLB Draft,
the Red Sox selected 21-year-old center fielder Tate Matheny—son of current St. Louis Cardinals manager
Mike Matheny. The younger Matheny just finished up a solid career at Missouri State—which reached the Super Regional Round of the NCAA Tournament this year. He was a .319 hitter in his three collegiate years, with 19 HRs and 106 RBIs. He is projected as having "average tools" but solid instincts—no doubt genetically-inspired. While probably not a starting center fielder in the big leagues, he could develop into a solid fourth OF who can play all three spots.
