In the fourth round of the MLB Draft, the Red Sox took Missouri State University junior
Tate Matheny—son of St. Louis Cardinals manager
Mike Matheny. In 2012, the Cardinals drafted Matheny—but he chose the college route. The 6', 180-pound outfielder was a career .319 hitter at Missouri State, with 23 stolen bases in 31 attempts. The Red Sox announced that
they have now signed Matheny. Prior to his collegiate career, Matheny was a standout at Westminster Christian Academy.
