Red Sox Pick Collegiate Player Of Year In Draft
The Red Sox selected an outfielder with the 7th overall pick in tonight's MLB Draft. Boston took Andrew Benintendi (the 2015 Collegiate Player Of The Year) out of the University of Arkansas. Benintendi was also this year's SEC Player Of the Year. While only 5'10" and 180, he dramatically increased his power output this year. He is said by some to be an analog to Jacoby Ellsbury—speed, some power, and defensive athleticism. Boston passed over one of the best pitchers in the draft—Carson Fulmer of Vanderbilt—who was immediately taken on the next pick by the Chicago White Sox. Considering that Boston is already stocked with multiple quality arms in their system, it makes sense to take the only special bat available in the Top 10. We like this move.
