A federal jury of seven women and five men, sitting in Boston, has sentenced
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to
death in the penalty phase of the
Boston Marathon bombing trial. Tsarnaev was earlier found guilty on all 30 counts against him—including conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction and bombing of a public place. The April 15, 2013 bombings took the lives of three people—
Krystle Marie Campbell,
Lu Lingzi,
Martin William Richard—and injured
hundreds more. In addition, MIT police officer
Sean Collier was ambushed and murdered by Tsarnaev and his bother Tamerlan.
