Before we forget,
Clay Buchholz pitched seven
brilliant shutout innings today—striking out nine and giving up just three hits.
That should be the story of the game, but the fact that Red Sox hitters clouted five home runs (tying an
Opening Day record) was the stuff going on and off in lights at Citizens Bank Park in
an 8-0 Boston win.
Hanley Ramirez and
Dustin Pedroia each had
two round-trippers (one of Ramirez's being a grand slam), while
Mookie Betts went yard for the other.
Cole Hamels (whose Boston-area trade value dropped precipitously) gave up four of the five home runs. All in all, a pretty good start. And, by the way, the Red Sox are on pace to hit 810 HRs this year.
