The worst fears of the Red Sox have been realized in the case of
Christian Vazquez. The club announced tonight that
the young catcher will undergo Tommy John surgery tomorrow—effectively ending his season. The 24-year old defensive whiz threw out over 50% of runners in 55 games last year for
The Carmine Hose. He was slated to catch the bulk of the games this year—a task that now falls to Andover's
Ryan Hanigan. This is a huge blow to the 2015 team—and will likely accelerate the progression of the organization's
other catching phenom,
Blake Swihart.
