Wally Disses Mr. Met In Mascot TWITTER War
Mr. Met (the Flushing-based mascot) is no stranger to controversy. For example, in 1997, a Secret Service agent told him the following at a Shea Stadium event with then-President Bill Clinton, "Now listen to me very carefully. We have snipers all around the stadium, just in case something were to happen. Like I said, do whatever it is you normally do. Nobody will bother you. But approach the president, and we go for the kill shot. Are we clear? ARE-WE-CLEAR?" Hello! Yesterday, Monsieur Metropolitan was dissed by none other than our own mascot—Wally The Green Monster. It's a full-fledged TWITTER "war" among Wally, Mr. Met and (the truly pathetic) Bernie Brewer. After The Sporting News designated the three as the top mascots in the game, Señor Met claimed he was "coming for that number one spot". Retorted Wally to both his rivals, "at least you would be number one in something this year then." Touché!
