Alex Wilson |
Alex Wilson had a pretty good year in 2014. Although he hurled just 28.1 innings in 18 appearances for the Red Sox, he posted a 1.91 ERA—striking out 19 and walking just 5. He delivered a 0.88 WHIP and held opposing hitters to a .198 average. That's why
FenwayNation gave him our
2014 "Under The Radar Award". Wilson was viewed as the "throw-in" piece in the deal that sent
Yoenis Cespedes to Detroit and brought
Rick Porcello here to Boston. Now, Wilson has shed some light on why he was so successful last year—
the return of his cutter (which he threw about one-third of the time). Previously, injuries had limited his repertoire to his fastball and slider—with mixed success. While the Tigers will likely start Wilson at AAA, he will be one of the first call-ups to the big club. And, he may come back to haunt his old team.
