For the first time yesterday, Red Sox manager
John Farrell floated
the possibility that Joe Kelly (suffering from right bicep tendinitis) might go on the disabled list. The rationale for this action would be that Boston does not need a fifth starter until April 12th (a Sunday night game in the Bronx). The extra rest would give Kelly the opportunity to fully heal from the injury—and make an extra minor league start—in Florida. There is still a chance that Kelly could make a final successful
major league Spring start without discomfort that would avoid a DL stint.
