The Red Sox formally introduced
Yoan Moncada (their new $63 million infielder) today at a Fort Myers press conference. The 19-year old Cuban stated that he looked forward to making it to the big leagues in the next few years with the Red Sox. He was asked who was faster between him and his fellow countryman
Rusney Castillo. Said Moncada,
"Rusney has me right now but all I need is some training to eventually beat him." He was also asked what his favorite position is, to which he responded,
"Right now second base is where I feel most comfortable, but I've also been exposed to playing third base, shortstop and center field." He was then asked what made him most comfortable about the Red Sox pursuit. Moncada said, "
I appreciated the attention the Red Sox gave me. Also, I want to thank Luis Tiant for telling me about what it's like to play in Boston." All in all, the kid seemed pretty poised for a teenager who has just hit the baseball jackpot.
