Chili Davis won two World Series rings with the Yankees in the late 1990s. So, when
Brian Cashman made a push to sign him as the hitting coach of
The Bronx Embalmers, he was obviously interested. However, in 2011, the Boston Red Sox offered Davis his
first coaching position ever—hitting coach at AAA Pawtucket. So, when
Ben Cherington came 'a-calling',
Davis had a tough choice. Said Chili,
"I sort of felt either way I was going to let somebody down. (One is) an organization that I played for and that I won championships with. And (the other is) an organization that actually opened the door for me to be where I am now. So ... if I had swung either way, I was going to let someone down. I was going to feel like I let someone down. But I couldn't make a wrong decision either way. Two class organizations. Two very good teams. Two mangers that I respect. Two (general managers) that I respect. Tough decision. It wasn't an easy decision." In the end, he signed a two-year pact as the new hitting coach of
The Carmine Hose. Good, choice, Chili.
