New Red Sox catcher
Ryan Hanigan—the pride of Andover (MA) High School—came to Boston in the trade that sent
Will Middlebrooks to San Diego. Hanigan—previously with the Reds and Rays—has managed to
place himself among positional leaders in a number of key categories. For example, Hanigan is #1 in baseball in both catcher fielding percentage and catcher's ERA. He's also fifth in shutouts caught. He will likely catch about 40% of Boston's games this year and should prove to be a valuable veteran influence on both
Christian Vazquez and
Blake Swihart.
