Poor
Stan Papi will never be
"Big Papi",
"Medium Papi" or even
"Minuscule Papi". His only legacy in Boston is an infamous one. He is the guy we got in the trade that sent the beloved
Bill Lee to Montreal in 1978. Papi—who turns 64 years old today—played in only 51 games for
The Carmine Hose, hitting a robust .188 with 1 HR. Lee had spent
ten seasons with the Red Sox (94-68, 3.64 ERA) and risked his career to fight the good fight against
The Evil Ones. He was a legend. Papi, not so much. After the trade,
Spaceman went 25-22 with a 3.57 ERA in Canada. And, of course, at age 68, he is still playing wherever there's an open field, a ball and a bat. Bad trade, no biscuit!
