Sox Laying Out Terms Of Any Cole Hamels Deal
Over the weekend it was reported that the Red Sox were one of four teams that had made a trade proposal to the Phillies for Cole Hamles. WEEI.com's Rob Bradford now reports that Boston has made Philadelphia "aware of the parameters" that any deal would have to conform to. GM Ben Cherington has so far steadfastly refused to include his top two prospects (Mookie Betts, Blake Swihart), but that could change under the right circumstances. Boston is on Hamel's no-trade list, so he'd either have to waive that or trigger it and force the Red Sox to pick up his $110 million fifth-year option. At this point, as long as the Red Sox are weighting the deal toward major league talent, and as long as Philly demands Betts or Swihart, nothing will happen.
