After some speculation that the Yankees would sign free-agent
James Shields to aid their old and ailing rotation, San Diego is now the new hot spot. According to
USAToday's Bob Nightengale,
the Padres "have to be" considered the favorites to land Big Game. Shields lives in the San Diego area, and since his asking price has come way down, the Padres can probably afford him. We still think Shields would look good in
Carmine Hose (even considering his poor Fenway Park career marks), but it looks like he'll be surfing at La Jolla not Nantasket.
