Secretary of State
John Kerry—
supposedly a Red Sox fan—is reportedly pressuring the team
to play an exhibition game this spring in Cuba. The Obama Administration is loosening restrictions on the
Castro Brothers' Personal Prison Island and apparently believes an MLB trip will push things along. Multiple reports suggest that the opponent would be the Baltimore Orioles—who played the Cuban team in Havana 15 years ago. An
ESPN.com report by Buster Olney cites a Red Sox source saying that this spring would be "too soon" to make such a game work. Let's hope the NOG keeps its well-known political leanings
out of baseball and the team confines its spring games to fields at least 90 miles from Cuba.
