In a bit of a surprise, Red Sox manager
John Farrell today basically handed the starting right field job to Shane Victorino. This, despite talk all Winter that
Mookie Betts had to be in the line-up—with right-field the only logical possibility.
Rusney Castillo is set as the starting center-fielder and
Hanley Ramirez is certainly not going to be bumped from left-field. Said Farrell,
"If Shane Victorino is fully capable and fully healthy, he’s our right fielder. That’s pretty simple. He was one of the best right fielders in the game two years ago." If you read between the lines, Farrell
could be hinting that
The Flyin' Hawaiian is
not fully healthy (at least at the start of the season)—and thus the manager's comments would be moot. Stay tuned!
