Cherington On Off-Season Moves: 'We're Done!'
While his comments may not sit well with a restless fan base, Red Sox General Manager Ben Cherington stated that—as far as he's concerned—the team is done with their off-season moves. To be sure, Cherington has been busy since his 2014 team finished with a whopping 71 wins. The offense has been upgraded with Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez. And, the rotation—with only Clay Buchholz and Joe Kelly returning from the 2014 squad—was buttressed with Wade Miley, Rick Porcello and Justin Masterson. Many still feel the lack of a true ace will hurt this team—especially if it somehow makes it to the post-season. Said Cherington, "I would expect the group we have for Spring Training is in place, and I would be surprised if there were any additions. I couldn't completely rule out a non-roster deal with someone, but we feel good about where we are with our position players and pitching group, so this is probably the group you'll see when we take the field in Fort Myers." Not what we want to hear.
