The Mother Of All Nightmares for people who actually
live and work in the Boston area became real today, when
the US Olympic Committee announced that the city had won the domestic competition to host the 2024 Summer Olympic Games. Beantown beat out Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, DC for the right to deal with endless traffic jams, outrageous up-front costs and annoying visitors from everywhere in the world. Boston must now make its case to the International Olympic Committee—where the city's likely competition will be from Rome, Paris, Hamburg, or Berlin. We can only hope we lose.
