Taking advantage of their "deep depth" at the catching position,
the Red Sox traded Dan Butler to the Washington Nationals for pitcher Danny Rosenbaum. With Andover High School grad
Ryan Hanigan, and prospects
Christian Vazquez and
Blake Swihart ready to handle catching duties, Butler became expendable. The 27-year old Rosenbaum—a lefty—has pitched at the minor league level since 2009—for a combined 3.12 ERA. Butler got into seven Red Sox games last year, hitting .211—but did well in the Boston minor league system.
