Digital Timers Installed At AAA And AA In 2015
In a significant new development, Major League Baseball has decreed that all AAA and AA minor league stadiums will install digital timing devices for the 2015 season. Two digital timers will be behind home plate and one in the outfield. Clearly, incoming Commissioner Rob Manfred is very serious about speeding up the pace of the game. Under the new rules at minor league parks, if a pitcher does not come "set" within 20 seconds, an automatic "ball" will be called. There will also be a timer for pitching changes. This move is an obvious pre-cursor to fast-tracking the rule for the major leagues.
