According to
FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal, the
Red Sox and Washington Nationals have discussed a trade for Jordan Zimmermann that would bring the 28-year old ace to Boston. It's unclear what kind of prospect-based return Washington would require, but Zimmermann's $16.5 million salary for 2015 (and his impending free agency in 2016) would likely keep the quality of the package down somewhat. Zimmermann is one of the best young starters in baseball—with the 10th best SP WAR over the last three seasons. Last year, Zimmermann was 14-5 with a 2.66 ERA in 32 starts—
including a no-hitter on the last day of the regular season. He would be a clear staff leader on the Red Sox and go a long way toward making the rotation young and solid.
