Some prodigal sons
come, some prodigal sons
go. In the case of
Justin Masterson, it looks as if the
former Red Sox hurler will become a Red Sox hurler
again.
ESPN.com's Buster Olney is reporting that
Boston has "an agreement" in place to sign Masterson. It's unclear whether it's a one- or two-year pact, but the signing gives further shape to the 2015 rotation.
Rick Porcello,
Clay Buchholz,
Wade Miley,
Joe Kelly, and Masterson would be a decent group—
if there's a true ace at the top. Boston can still make that happen (to a
greater extent) by trading prospects for
Cole Hamels or (to a
lesser extent) by signing free-agent
James Shields. Stay tuned, more stuff is certain to happen today.
