Jason Heyward was traded by the Braves to the Cardinals today for—frankly—not all that much. St. Louis sent
Shelby Miller (a marginal starter at best) and another prospect to Atlanta for Heyward and a decent pitching prospect. Despite the relatively low price for Heyward,
the Red Sox—according to WEEI.com—were never in on the talks. Heyward is a left-handed bat (a Boston need), a good right-field defender and can steal bases. But, apparently, the glut of outfielders on the current Boston roster and the reluctance to part with
any prospects kept the Red Sox on the outside looking in.
